Since its foundation in 1980, CHAUTRAM quickly built a solid reputation as an expert in port handling operations in Martinique.
In 1985, CHAUTRAM carries out its first major loading operation with 7,150 tons of fertilizer shipped to Cameroon in one go.
In 1987, Dominique CHAUVET took the helm of the family business, continuing his father's work with passion and determination. Under his leadership, CHAUTRAM has continued to grow and diversify its services while staying true to its values of quality and professionalism.
The 1990s were, for CHAUTRAM, a period conducive to the diversification of its operations, focusing in particular on the export of fertilizers to the Caribbean region, as well as the handling of materials such as wood, iron, and cement.
In response to the urgent needs during the cement plant strike during the same period, CHAUTRAM handled thousands of tons of cement every week.
The first twelve years that marked the beginning of the 21st century saw the introduction of Ro-Ro ships, cruise ships and the management of military cargoes.
In 2000, we launched our handling services for cruise ships, an activity that was interrupted in 2009 and successfully resumed in 2012.
Since taking over in 2012, CHAUTRAM has continued to provide its expertise in handling cruise ships.
In particular, we work with internationally renowned companies that perform their turn-around in Martinique such as MSC, Costa, Aida and Compagnie du Ponant.
The COVID-19 pandemic temporarily halted our activities in 2020, but we quickly resumed stopovers in 2022, showcasing our resilience and adaptability.
To our credit: successful complex operations, such as the unloading of 4,500 passengers in a single morning in 2022/2023 and 3,800 passengers in 2023/2024. In addition, we have carried out other complex operations, such as unloading and loading at two different docks, as well as simultaneous handling on multiple vessels.
In 2021, CHAUTRAM expanded its range of services by offering forklift rentals and container unpacking, thereby meeting the growing handling needs beyond the port. This service is now an integral part of our offer, supporting various industrial sectors in Martinique. His two sons joined Mr. Dominique Chauvet, the first in December 2017 and the second in December 2022, contributing to the continuity and growth of the family business.
